George Harrison:
Living in the Material World

Introducing the film:

Produced by Oscar-winner Martin Scorsese and Harrison's widow Olivia, "George Harrison: Living in the Material World", traces the life of the late Beatle from his musical beginnings in Liverpool to his fame with the Fab Four in the 1960s as well as his work as a philanthropist and filmmaker.

Quotes:

Martin Scorsese on way he made the film: "I will never forget the first time I heard [Harrison's 1970 triple-album solo debut] ‘All Things Must Pass,’ the overwhelming feeling of taking in that all glorious music for the first time. It was like walking into a cathedral. George was making spiritually awake music – we all heard and felt it – and I think that was the reason that he came to occupy a very special place in our lives. So when I was offered the chance to make this picture, I jumped at it."

The book by his widow, Olivia Harrison will be released in time for Scorsese's biopic of George Harrison with the same name.

Description: Drawing on George Harrison's personal archive of photographs, letters, diaries, and memorabilia, Olivia Harrison reveals the arc of his life, from his guitar-obsessed boyhood in Liverpool, to the astonishment of the Beatles years, to his days as an independent musician and bohemian squire. Here too is the record of Harrison's lifelong commitment to Indian music, and his adventures as a movie producer, Travelling Wilbury, and Formula One racing fan. This book is filled with stories and reminiscences from Harrison's friends, including Eric Clapton, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idol, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and many, many others. Among its previously unpublished riches are photographs by Harrison himself beginning in the mid-1960s. It is a rich tribute to a man who died far too young, but who touched the lives of millions.

The book will be released 15 September 2011. Pre-order Living in the Material World: George Harrison
